Weaver Teams with Control Union and Geoflorestas

20 Sep 2013

In order to perform timely and cost-effective on-site inspections of foreign renewable fuel producing facilities under its EPA-approved Quality Assurance Plan programme, Baker Tilly International member firm Weaver (Houston, Texas, USA) has teamed up with Control Union Certifications, a division of Control Union World Group, an internationally-recognised independent inspection and certification body with more than 8,000 employees worldwide, and with Geoflorestas, a South American-based company specialising in geoprocessing technology.

Several cases of Renewable Identification Number (RIN) fraud have shaken the renewable fuels market and, as a result, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created a programme to address and mitigate the market’s concerns regarding the validity of RINs ―Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs). Weaver is proud that its RIN-tegrity® QAP programme is one of only six programmes that have been pre-approved by the EPA. Fuel types included in Weaver’s QAP are ethanol, biodiesel and renewable diesel, cellulosic gasoline and diesel, naphtha, biogas, jet fuel and heating oil.

By teaming with Control Union, maintaining a presence in every country where renewable fuel is produced, Weaver can utilise the services of a local Control Union engineer to perform EPA-required site visits to the producer’s facility. This enables Weaver and Control Union to offer a cost-effective QAP solution for foreign producers. In addition, these producers can work with a company they know and with whom they already entrust their other in-country environmental certifications.

In addition, Geoflorestas will be working with both Weaver and Control Union in areas requiring detailed satellite imagery and the processing of the associated data.

Sandra Dunphy, Weaver’s director of energy compliance services said: “We are very excited to have this new relationship with Control Union and Geoflorestas, two of the most respected names in the international biofuels community, and look forward to teaming with them to perform our RIN-tegrity® reviews. This will be a ‘win-win’ situation for our US importer clients and the foreign producers”.
